Coastal Flood Warning issued February 22 at 3:22PM EST until February 23 at 5:00AM EST by NWS Upton NY
* WHAT...1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level likely
in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.
* WHERE...In Connecticut, Southern Fairfield and Southern New
Haven Counties. In New York, Southern Westchester County.
* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 5 AM EST Monday.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread moderate flooding of
vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline likely. 1
1/2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level possible in low
lying, vulnerable areas. This would result in numerous road
closures and cause widespread flooding of low lying property
including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with
basements near the waterfront. Vehicles parked in vulnerable
areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding
will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers
and bays.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This water level forecast has been leaned
towards a high end scenario, providing a margin of safety. It is
highly dependent on timing of windshift from northeast to north
storm force winds with respect to the time of high tide. If
shift to northerly winds occurs earlier than time of high tide,
water levels will fall to the low end or even below the
forecast range.
Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If
travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through
water of unknown depth.
