Red Flag Warning issued March 15 at 12:29AM MDT until March 15 at 8:00PM MDT by NWS El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS SUNDAY FOR FAR WEST TEXAS AND
PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO...
A passing upper level disturbance will bring breezy to strong
west-northwest winds and critical fire weather conditions to the
area today. Relative humidity values remain low for Fire Weather
Zone 113 this morning as winds strengthen. The timing of critical
fire weather conditions is unusual today as winds subside this
afternoon; the strongest winds will overlap higher relative
humidities. Also, rapid drying of fuels and presence of dead fuels
in both the Gila and Lincoln National Forests have increased the
risk of fire spread. Winds will shift northwesterly then north
later in the day as a strong cold front arrives.
The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has
issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 11 AM this
morning to 8 PM MDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no
longer in effect.
* TIMING...11 AM to 8 PM Sunday.
* WINDS...Northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 7 percent.
* EXPERIMENTAL RFTI...3 to 4, or Near Critical.
* IMPACTS...any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
