Flood Watch issued December 14 at 4:37PM PST until December 18 at 4:00PM PST by NWS Seattle WA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Washington, including the following counties, in northwest Washington, Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Skagit and Whatcom. In west central Washington, King, Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish and Thurston. * WHEN...From Monday morning through Thursday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A series of weather systems this week will bring another round of significant rainfall to western Washington late tonight through Wednesday. Preliminary liquid totals of 2 to 6 inches, locally higher in some spots, will cause additional sharp rises to area rivers. Urban and small stream flooding remains possible for areas with poor drainage. Very saturated soils will maintain increased risk for potential landslides and debris flows off of burn scars. - Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Flood Warning issued December 15 at 1:08AM PST by NWS Seattle WA ...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Washington... Skagit River Near Mt. Vernon affecting Skagit County. .Heavy rain in the North Cascades will push the Skagit River at Mount Vernon back above flood stage later today. * WHAT...Major flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Skagit River near Mt. Vernon. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 32.0 feet, the Skagit River will cause major flooding from Sedro Woolley downstream through Mount Vernon to the mouth. Deep and swift flood waters will inundate many roads...farmlands and residential areas. Flooding will occur all along the river including headwaters...tributaries...and other streams within and near the Skagit River Basin. This level for this location on the Skagit corresponds to a Phase 2 flood in the Skagit County flood system. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 12:15 AM PST Monday the stage was 27.6 feet. - Flood stage is 28.0 feet. - Forecast...The river will rise to flood stage this afternoon. It will continue to rise tonight and Tuesday cresting late Tuesday evening around 33 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood To escape rising water, take the shortest path to higher ground. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock you off your feet and a depth of 2 feet will float your car. Never try to walk, swim, or drive through such swift water. If you come upon flood waters, stop, turn around and go another way. Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.
