Coastal Flood Warning issued September 25 at 4:44PM EDT until September 27 at 6:00PM EDT by NWS Upton NY
* WHAT...1 to 2 ft, locally 2 1/2 ft, of inundation above ground
level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and
shoreline. The highest water levels are likely with the
Saturday midday and possibly Sunday midday high tides.
* WHERE...Bronx, Northwest Suffolk, Northern Queens and Northern
Nassau Counties.
* WHEN...During the times of high tide until 6 PM EDT Sunday.
* COASTAL IMPACTS...Minor to locally moderate flooding is
expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront
and shoreline. Expect 1 to 2 ft, locally 2 1/2 ft, of inundation
above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads
and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and
homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will
experience shallow flooding.
* SHOREFRONT/BEACH IMPACTS...Breaking waves of 3 to 6 ft, along
with elevated water levels, will result in areas of dune
erosion with damage to a few waterfront structures possible.
Splashover over seawalls and overwashes where dune structures
are compromised may locally exacerbate flooding of roadways and
vulnerable structures behind protective dunes.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Another round of minor to moderate coastal
flooding is possible for the Sunday afternoon high tide cycle.
Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If
travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through
water of unknown depth.
