High Surf Advisory issued July 19 at 6:43PM PDT until July 21 at 11:00PM PDT by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
* WHAT...Large breaking waves building to 4 to 7 feet with sets up
to 8 feet. Dangerous rip currents.
* WHERE...Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Ventura County
Beaches, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches.
* WHEN...Until 11 PM PDT Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip
currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large
breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and
rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Highest surf will be focused across south
facing beaches due to a southerly swell produced by Tropical
Storm Elida. Additional Beach Hazards Statements or High Surf
Advisories will likely be needed through the rest of the week
due to a series of incoming southerly swells.
Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay
near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in
such conditions, stay off the rocks.
