Frost Advisory issued January 29 at 6:59PM EST until January 30 at 8:00AM EST by NWS Jacksonville FL
* WHAT...For the Frost Advisory, temperatures as low as 33 will
result in frost formation. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously
cold wind chills as low as 7 above possible. For the Freeze Watch,
sub-freezing temperatures as low as 20 possible.
* WHERE...Portions of northeast and northern Florida and southeast
Georgia.
* WHEN...For the Frost Advisory, from 1 AM to 8 AM EST Friday. For
the Extreme Cold Watch and Freeze Watch, from Saturday evening
through Sunday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 5 above zero
could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is
exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Appropriate action
should be taken to ensure tender vegetation and outdoor pets have
adequate protection from the cold temperatures. Young children,
the elderly and the homeless are especially vulnerable to the
cold. Take measures to protect them. Frost could harm sensitive
outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left
uncovered.
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.
To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to
drip slowly.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
