Heat Advisory issued July 31 at 12:38PM AKDT until August 1 at 9:00PM AKDT by NWS Anchorage AK
* WHAT...Hot temperatures as high as 72 to 80 degrees expected,
coolest along the coast.
* WHERE...Anchorage Bowl, including Eagle River, Chugiak, Birchwood,
Girdwood, and East Turnagain Arm.
* WHEN...Until 9 PM AKDT Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Individuals not accustomed to these unusually hot
temperatures for this region may experience heat related illnesses.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Temperatures across the Anchorage Bowl and
East Turnagain Arm areas will again climb well into the 70s for
daytime highs Friday and Saturday. The coolest temperatures will
be along the coast where afternoon sea breezes will develop.
Overnight lows will drop into the upper 40s to lower 50s, allowing
for a brief respite from the very warm temperatures.
Drink plenty of fluids and check up on elderly and vulnerable
relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances as vehicle interiors can reach extreme
temperatures in as little as 10 minutes.
Take extra precautions when working in the sun. Wear sunscreen and
lightweight, loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous
activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see
symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Close curtains during the daytime to reduce sun insolation into the
home and open windows at night to allow the home to cool off.
Utilize fans or community buildings with air conditioning.
