...RED FLAG WARNING FOR PORTIONS OF WESTERN NORTH DAKOTA THIS
AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING...
.Critical fire weather conditions are expected this afternoon
through early this evening across portions of western North
Dakota. Expect minimum relative humidity as low as 20 percent mid
to late this afternoon, with west-northwesterly winds sustained
to around 40 mph and peak gusts as high as 70 mph. Any fires that
ignite could spread rapidly and become difficult to control.
The National Weather Service in Bismarck has issued a Red Flag
Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect
from noon CDT /11 AM MDT/ today to 8 PM CDT /7 PM MDT/ this
evening.
* WINDS...West-northwest to around 40 mph with peak gusts up to
70 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent.
* AFFECTED AREA...Portions of western North Dakota.
* IMPACTS...Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become
difficult to control or suppress.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds and low relative humidity can contribute to extreme
fire behavior.
