Winter Storm Warning issued January 24 at 3:59PM EST until January 26 at 1:00PM EST by NWS Blacksburg VA
* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow and sleet
accumulations between 5 and 9 inches and ice accumulations between
two tenths and one half of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40
mph.
* WHERE...Portions of central, south central, southwest, and west
central Virginia and southeast West Virginia.
* WHEN...Until 1 PM EST Monday.
* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Power outages and tree damage
are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The
hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.
Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter
storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains,
booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing.
Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help
you survive in case you become stranded.
