Disruptive Rain
Flooding of roads, formal and informal settlements which may lead to damage to infrastructure and displacement of vulnerable communities. Danger to life (fast flowing streams / deep water) and large communities may not be accessible/cut-off for a prolonged period. Major disruption of traffic flow due to major roads being flooded and damaged could lead to increased travel time.Damage to property, infrastructure (informal/farm dam walls), loss of livelihood and livestock.
If possible stay indoors and off the roads, avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above your ankles. If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground. Switch off electricity at the supply point of the building. In rural areas protect/relocate animals to a safe place on higher ground. Abandon your home immediately if evacuation is recommended, before access is cut off by flood water. NEVER drive on a road covered by water.
