* WHAT...Heavy snow and sleet expected from late Saturday afternoon
through Sunday afternoon. North of Interstate 40, mainly snow will
occur, with additional accumulations between 6 and 10 inches,
locally up to 15 inches. Blowing and drifting snow may occur.
South of Interstate 40, a mixture of snow and sleet will occur,
with additional accumulation of 2 to 8 inches. Freezing rain of
up to and additional 0.20 inches may occur across far southeast
Oklahoma. Intense snow and sleet rates will greatly reduce
visibility and rapidly worsen travel conditions from late
afternoon through Saturday night.
* WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Arkansas and east
central, northeast, and southeast Oklahoma.
* WHEN...Until 3 PM CST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Dangerous to near impossible travel conditions are
expected areawide, with impacts likely to continue into next week
given the forecasted snow and sleet amounts. Localized power
outages may occur. Brutally cold temperatures will prevail through
the weekend and into early next week. Warming shelters should be
considered.
