Forecast:
Expect 40 to 70 mm of rain, mainly about the ranges. Downpours possible. Peak rates of 20 to 40 mm/h. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is also in force. Note, heavy rain easing from the west overnight. Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible. Chance of upgrading to a Red Warning: Minimal. Changes: Warning end period brought forward by 3hr to 3am.

Action: Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain. Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Forecast:
An active trough is expected to bring a period of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms to Bay of Plenty tonight. There is a moderate risk of localised Downpours of 25 to 40 mm/h with this trough. Rain should ease from the west tonight. Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain.
