Extreme Heat Warning issued September 11 at 2:11AM AST until September 11 at 5:00PM AST by NWS San Juan PR
* WHAT...This level of heat can affect anyone without effective
cooling and/or adequate hydration.
* WHERE...Portions of Puerto Rico, particularly across coastal and
urban areas and lower-elevation valleys.
* WHEN...From 10 AM this morning to 5 PM AST this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during
periods of very high heat indices or high temperatures. This
extreme heat event poses a severe threat to anyone with inadequate
cooling or hydration. These extreme impacts will be most pronounced
across coastal sections, lowlands, interior valleys, and urban
areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...High concentrations of Saharan Dust will also
be present today, resulting in hazy skies, reduced visibilities and
deteriorated air quality.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.
