Winter Weather Advisory issued January 15 at 7:08PM AKST until January 16 at 9:00PM AKST by NWS Fairbanks AK
* WHAT...Periods of blizzard conditions possible. Total snow
accumulations between 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations around a
light glaze possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.
* WHERE...Eielson AFB and Salcha, Fairbanks Metro Area, Nenana, and
Tanana Flats.
* WHEN...Until 9 PM AKST Friday.
* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road
conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce
visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday
morning and evening commutes. Isolated power outages are possible
and there could be minor tree damage as a result of the wind.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light freezing rain or freezing drizzle is
possible from Friday morning into Friday afternoon. This will not
be a major ice storm, but even a trace to a few hundredths of an
inch of ice can result in treacherous travel conditions. Strong
winds up to 40 mph can also blow most of the snow off of the
trees, so blowing and drifting snow as well as low visibility is a
concern.
Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road
conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by
calling 5 1 1.
