Forecast:
Periods of heavy rain. Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria and possibly exceed them in localised areas, especially in downpours. Note, a Severe Thunderstorms Watch is also in force. Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible. Chance of upgrading to a Warning: Moderate.

Action: Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain. Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch
Area:
Bay of Plenty,Rotorua
Forecast:
An active trough is expected to bring a period of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms to Bay of Plenty tonight. There is a moderate risk of localised Downpours of 25 to 40 mm/h with this trough. Rain should ease from the west tonight. Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain.

Note: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and monitor for possible Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.
