Heavy Rainfall Outlook
Refer to Weather Advisory No. 1 issued at 11:00 AM today for the heavy rainfall outlook due to Tropical Cyclone SALOME.
Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
The highest Wind Signal that will likely be hoisted throughout its passage is Wind Signal No. 1. However, the possibility of reaching tropical storm category is not ruled out, the worst case scenario is Wind Signal No. 2.
Furthermore northeasterly windflow will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas not under Wind Signal (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
Today: Ilocos Region and Cagayan.

Gale Warning is in effect over the seaboard of Extreme Northern Luzon. Refer to Gale Warning No. 2 issued at 5:00 AM today.
24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook
Up to very rough seas over the following coastal waters:
Up to 4.5 m: The seaboard of Batanes.
Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.
Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
Up to 4.0 m: The seaboards of Babuyan Islands.
Up to 3.5 m: The seaboards of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur; the northern seaboard of mainland Cagayan; the western seaboards of Pangasinan.
Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced of operating ill-equipped vessels.
Up to moderate to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
Up to 2.5 m: The seaboards of Isabela and La Union; the remaining seaboards of Cagayan and Pangasinan; the northern and eastern seaboards of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.
Mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
SALOME is forecast to move generally southwestward throughout the forecast period. On the forecast track, SALOME may pass close or make landfall over Batanes between tonight to tomorrow (23 October) early morning. This weather disturbance may also pass close or over Babuyan Islands by tomorrow morning, and in Ilocos Norte by tomorrow afternoon. SALOME may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday (24 October) afternoon or evening.
SALOME is likely to remain a tropical depression throughout the forecast period before weakening into a remnant low on Friday, but slight intensification into a tropical storm is not ruled out.
