.STORM INFORMATION...
At 7 AM ChST...the center of Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) was located
near latitude 15.4N, longitude 145.3E. This was about 35 miles
northwest of Tinian, 35 miles northwest of Saipan, and 135 miles
north-northeast of Guam. Storm motion was north-northwest, 330
degrees, at 4 mph. Storm intensity was 130 mph.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
The eye of Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) is moving slowly north-northwest
and away from Tinian and Saipan. Winds up to 130 mph are still
found within the slow-moving eyewall, so winds of excess of 115
mph are still expected at Tinian and Saipan for a few more hours,
but as the eye moves off further to the north-northwest winds
will start to decrease. Tropical storm force winds still extend
across Rota and Guam, and will be slow to subside across the
Marianas due to the size of the storm. Winds look to begin falling
below tropical storm force for Guam late tonight, Rota around
Thursday morning, and Tinian and Saipan Thursday evening or
Thursday night. Typhoon Sinlaku will begin to pass through the
northern CNMI just west of Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan, through
the latter half of the week.
People should be in a designated shelter or in a sturdy and
reinforced concrete building to ride out the storm as strong
tropical storm force winds are occurring at Rota, while
devastating winds in excess of 115 mph are expected at Tinian and
Saipan over the next few hours as the center of TY Sinlaku slowly
moves north-northwest and away from the islands. These winds will
continue into the late morning hours and then slowly decrease
through the rest of today and tonight. Due to the size of the
storm, the latest forecast has tropical storm force winds
continuing at Rota through Thursday morning, and Thursday evening
or Thursday night for Tinian and Saipan. Even when winds start to
decrease, remain indoors until the "all clear" is given.
Stay indoors during heavy rain and windy conditions associated with
Typhoon Sinlaku (04W). The window of time to complete preparations
for the protection of life and property has closed. Find shelter to
ride out the storm. Remain in a sturdy shelter until the "all clear"
is given. Heed the advice of your local emergency managers and
officials, and continue to monitor forecasts by your local National
Weather Service office in Tiyan, Guam.
.WIND INFORMATION...
Northeasterly tropical storm force winds around 39 mph are expected
to increase through today with typhoon winds around 75 mph possibly
starting late tonight or Thursday morning as Sinlaku passes to the
west, and winds shift toward the southeast. The size of the storm and
overall storm motion will maintain southeast tropical storm winds
through Friday afternoon as Sinlaku continues on its accelerated
northward trek after exiting the Marianas later in the week.
.COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION...
Seas of 20 to 30 feet remain possible, with dangerous surf and
significant coastal inundation and beach erosion possible.
.OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
Heavy, intense rainfall with TY Sinlaku is likely through the
latter half of the week, bringing rainfall amounts of 10 to 15
inches by Friday, with rainfall amounts upwards of 15 to 25 inches
near the center, as the system moves across the northern CNMI.
The exact track of Sinlaku will determine where the heaviest
rainfall will set up across the islands.
