orange watch - severe thunderstorm - in effect
Locations: Portions of southern Manitoba.
Potential rainfall rates: locally 30 to 50 mm per hour in thunderstorms.
Potential wind gusts: near 90 to 120 km/h in thunderstorms.
Time span: Near noon until late this evening, potentially extending into the overnight hours tonight.
Remarks: Thunderstorms are currently ongoing over southeastern Saskatchewan into southwestern Manitoba, though look to remain non-severe at this time.
As the day progresses, storms will intensify along a weak frontal boundary moving northeast from southern Saskatchewan and western North Dakota. As these storms track northeast, they pose three primary hazards: large hail (4 to 6 cm), strong gusty winds, and heavy rainfall. Should storms remain isolated rather than cluster together, an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to MBstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #MBStorm.
Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
