MTV and Mediahub sign a five-year news contract

MTV Oy has entered into a five-year contract with news production company Mediahub Helsinki Oy, where Mediahub will produce news and current affairs programmes for MTV.

News programmes have been a strong feature of MTV's identity for 35 years, offering Finns an independent view on important issues and events. Promoting and valuing pluralist and high-quality journalism in the current fragmented media sector is vital in terms of freedom of speech and democracy. To support this approach, MTV has committed itself to the development of its news operations both on TV and online over a five-year period, while at the same time, MTV and Mediahub aim to modernise the multi-channel news production model by streamlining the procedures.

The MTV3 channel will develop its extended late-night news programming next year to complement the 24/7 online services offered on, the Huomenta Suomi breakfast show as well as the time-honoured evening news at seven and ten. The aim is to keep providing audiences with background information that is not covered by other media channels.

Bonnier Broadcasting becomes the owner of Mediahub

Mediahub Helsinki Oy, the producer of MTV's news content, will become a direct subsidiary of Bonnier Broadcasting, MTV's parent company. This transfer of business operations gives the news production company the benefits of the synergy created by a link to one of the leading news companies in Sweden while also ensuring a more independent position and an ability to offer better service for other content customers. The company expects to see synergistic benefits in operations such as content production, and the news desk practices and management. In addition to MTV, Mediahub Helsinki's clients include companies such as Bauer Media, Sitra and the Academic Bookstore.

Mediahub Helsinki Oy and MTV are both part of the Bonnier Group. Mediahub Helsinki, founded in 2015, specialises in content production. It employs 87 news professionals. Merja Ylä-Anttila is Mediahub's Managing Director and MTV News' Editor-in-Chief.
