F1 to continue on MTV channels
MTV has signed a three-year contract to extend the exclusive rights to broadcast and distribute Formula 1® content in Finland. Motor sports fans can now still follow the Finnish Formula 1® drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Valtteri Bottas in their battle for the top podium positions for the 2016–2018 seasons.
Surveys show that Finns truly are a nation of F1® followers. According to the Suomi tänään (Finland today) survey by Taloustutkimus, Finns think that Formula 1® is one of the most interesting sports. Every Grand Prix weekend, more than a million viewers watch Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen and Williams' Valtteri Bottas on MTV.
"Formula One is a hardy perennial on Finnish TV, and we want to offer great F1 experiences to our viewers both now and in the future," says Lars Schulman, Vice President of Consumer Services at MTV.
"I'm delighted that we have renewed our agreement with MTV and look forward to continuing to work with them going forward," says Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of the Formula One group.
Next year the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship™ will start in Australia in March and end in Abu Dhabi in November. The calendar will include a new race to be held in Azerbaijan's capital Baku. In 2016, there will be a total of 21 races.
"Due to its popularity, Formula One is the top sport in terms of paid content. People can watch the races through MTV Total and MTV Katsomo. As usual, we will broadcast all race weekend events live, from the first practice rounds to the after-race banter," says Schulman.
Next year MTV will spoil Finnish sports fans with not only Formula 1® races but also other paid content such as the ice hockey world championships and Champions Hockey League matches, Nordic combined, plus skiing, ski jumping, athletics and football.
